Royal Visit to Cornwall

It's not every day that you get asked to photograph a royal visit, so when local councillor James Mustoe asked me to photograph Charles and Camilla on their visit to Mevagissey, I thought it sounded like it might be an interesting experience. It was the Royal couple's first port of call on their three-day visit to Cornwall. I'll admit to being a little nervous, it's easy to let the sense of occasion get the better of you, the village was absolutely buzzing about the impending visit. I also felt a sense of responsibility in recording this event as for the local community and Mevagissey Museum, in other words, I wanted to get it right! 

I had access along with a small bundle of press photographers and was accompanied by Clarence House throughout who gently guided us so we were one step ahead of Charles and Camilla, close enough for decent images whilst never getting in the way. The weather was perfect, big blue skies and bright sun, although this brought problems of its own in the form of hard shadows and some tricky exposures (I know, I know, never happy).

Stepping back for a little perspective on this kind of event, it must be odd to have a pack photographers recording your every move, when even eating ice cream becomes a big deal. I know they're used to it, but still, I can't help but find it all very strange. But aside from that, I enjoyed the experience and I'd like to thanks James for the opportunity
