Great Cornish Food Store
15 November 2016
I managed a visit to The Great Cornish Food Store (next to Waitrose) in Truro recently and had my camera kit in tow for a few snaps of the gorgeous interior. I'd only previously taken a slightly rubbish phone snap in there, so it was good to finally get some decent photos of the large scale images wallpapered up in the store. These huge photos that are on display were not taken for any purpose other than I happened to have my DSLR at the right moment whilst out and about on the Cornish south coast.
The glistening beach with a large stripe of sparkling sea and a fishing boat on the horizon was snapped from Towan Beach, near St Anthony's Head on the Roseland. It was used as the opening shot for Cornwall Food & Drink's 'Great Cornish Fish Book' published last year, before being used to wallpaper the back wall of the cafe in the Great Cornish Food Store. It has brought the Cornish seaside indoors in a retail development situated in a large car park just outside of Truro. It makes me smile every time I see it, as all I really remember is enjoying a lovely warm summer's day walk with a friend and her funny dog chasing a frisbee.
Another shot of Mevagissey harbour (below) has been used as a large colourful slice towards the back of the store, brightening up the corridor to the customer toilets. Another opportune moment whilst out and about, first used as a double page spread in the 'Great Cornish Fish Book' and now being utilised in an interior space.
There's definitely a moral to this slightly rambling article; this is to always have your camera with you. Sometimes it may just be a smartphone, but preferably it's a DSLR so that these opportunist snaps can one day be made into enormous wallpaper.
You just never know.
